Sound poetry artist, performer and singer, NicoNote aka Nicoletta Magalotti conceived and created this performance expressly for Festivaletteratura 2023. The performance moves towards the dimension of the unknown, of the impalpable, in the Sturm und Drang and Romantic flow, between sound, reading, singing. It is a door that opens onto a world of poetic listening by a narrating, or rather singing, self, who traverses a path made of sounds and words in parallel dimensions, evoking a feeling of Mitteleuropa and the decline of the West, the expression of disorientation, a perception of ‘lost roots’ dear to Romantic material. Beginning with a lyric by Hölderlin, the performance develops in successive “crossings”, leading to Schumann’s Dichterliebe, passing through Kurt Cobain, Henry Purcell to Rilke, Novalis and Goethe.
Niconote, an artistic alias created in 1996 by Italian-Austrian Nicoletta Magalotti (1962) based in Bologna and Rimini, performer, author, transversal artist known for her vocality, moves liquidly between genres and formats. She acts in the territories of music, theatre, installations, clubbing with artistic productions and curatorships. Her vocal research synthesises a peculiar path in musical and theatrical practice, in the encounter with masters such as Gabriella Bartolomei, Yoshi Oida, Roy Hart Theatre, Akademia Ruchu, Tiziana Ghiglioni, Francois Tanguy. In the mid-eighties she was the voice of Violet Eves, a band much loved by Pier Vittorio Tondelli, for the independent label IRA records in Florence, with Litfiba, Diaframma, Moda, Underground Life. In the 1990s and Zero together with DJ David Love Calò she curated a space inside Cocoricò, the Morphine, a place for musical and performance experimentation. In her career she has been directed by directors such as Romeo Castellucci (Societas Raffaello Sanzio) and many others. Her latest album, entitled Limbo Session Vol I with producer Wang Inc. for Rizosfera, Rough Trade (UK) 2021, is a project between voice, poetry and radical improvisation. She is one of the voices in the project Donnacirco(Tempesta, 2021) and collaborates with labels such as New Interplanetary Melodies, Kuro Jam, Music from Memory (NL), DSPPR (UK). He regularly conducts voice masterclasses in Italy and France. Syntonic is his monthly programme on Radio Raheem.
