The work “Spatial Emission Places” is rich in content and equally generous in sounds and images. As a format, it is characterized by:
- CD format, 1 sonic geography track, 74 minutes running by Coagulant
- Set of b/n postcards by E. Gabriel Edvy (CLOCK DVA\Sequencial AVR)
- A ‘leporello’ – The leporello is a format consisting of a single strip of paper folded onto itself in an accordion style – With a text by Fabio Kubic, dedicated to the definition of the fundamental elements of the project and the concept.
- Streaming of the entire work on the RizoStream digital platform, with a private access code provided to purchasers of Spatial Emission Places.
- A cardboard envelope containing the CD, the photographs, and the leporello.
Spatial Emission Places: A Sonic Exploration of Environmental Memory and Acoustic Space.
Soundscape is a fundamental yet often overlooked aspect of our environment. The acoustic layers that envelop us carry histories, narratives, and transformations—an intricate and invisible ecology of place. Yet, despite its omnipresence, the sonic dimension of space remains insufficiently appreciated or fully integrated into our environmental consciousness. This project, Spatial Emission Places, seeks to bridge this gap by foregrounding sound as a vessel of memory and transformation within our natural landscapes.
In this work, I investigate the concept of spatiality through a detailed exploration of soundscapes in two unique environments: Great Salt Lake and Bonneville Salt Flats – Utah, U.S.A.. Both locations are marked by vast, open spaces, yet they possess distinct sonic signatures shaped by their ecological conditions and atmospheric interactions.
By employing geophones and ambisonic environmental microphones, I have captured the organic acoustics of these landscapes, collecting the nuanced shifts in tone, reverberation, and ambient noise that shape the listener’s perception of each place.
The intent of Spatial Emission Places is to convey an acoustic narrative that connects listeners to these spaces not only in their present states but as dynamic entities bearing the traces of past events. These are spaces of metamorphosis, where seasonal cycles, environmental changes, and human interventions continuously alter the auditory texture. In tracing these shifts, the work aims to evoke a sonic remembrance—a kind of temporal layering where listeners encounter both the present and residual echoes of the past.
The soundscapes recorded in this work are not static; rather, they undergo subtle, organic transformations that reflect the environments’ living processes. Through a careful design that manipulates and layers these sounds, I construct an immersive sound space that unfolds at a slow, meditative pace, encouraging the listener to dwell in each acoustic moment. The goal is to create a sonic experience that feels timeless—a space where listeners can momentarily dissolve into the soundscape and experience the profound resonance of place.
Ultimately, Spatial Emission Places serves as an homage to these natural environments, presenting an auditory document that celebrates their unique acoustic identities while exploring the broader concept of spatial memory. By immersing the listener in these meticulously crafted sound environments, I hope to encourage a deeper, more personal connection to the world’s soundscapes, reminding us that every space, however vast or remote, holds within it a story waiting to be heard.
