SONITUS 1 & 2 :: RIZOSTREAM RELEASE OPEN ACCESS
The Modena Music Center and the cultural association and publishing house Rizosfera, based in Reggio Emilia, are pleased to announce that the SONITUS project is now available on a USB drive at the Modena Music Center and on the Rizostream website with free access. SONITUS is an artistic research and residency project on field recording and sound manipulation, aimed at original production, presented in an exhibition at the Tower of the Modena Music Center.
The intention to create a tangible and special record of SONITUS I and SONITUS II led the Modena Music Center to commission Rizosfera to produce a physical support specifically designed to document the two artistic residencies. The effort resulted in the creation of an exclusive USB drive – framed inside a dedicated container – to document the audio and video recordings of both events held at the performance space of the Tower of the Modena Music Center, also celebrated by two commemorative postcards.
The open access on the Rizostream digital platform (https://rizo.stream) will allow everyone to freely enjoy an avant-garde project that confirms the constant commitment of the Municipality of Modena – the first Italian city to receive the recognition of “Unesco Creative City for Media Arts” – in the field of innovation and the creation of new artistic events in sound design, digital art, and youth music production.
SONITUS I
SONITUS I is the result of an artistic residency in field recording and sound manipulation that culminated in its final concert on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Tower of the Modena Music Center. The performance aimed to create an original production, the “Exodus” project, focused on field recording and curated by Giuseppe Cordaro and guest tutor Luca Roccatagliati (Dj Rocca), with the participation of drummer Youssef Ait Bouazza (Savana Funk) and video artist Ali Beidoun. From a public call for musicians under 36 residing or domiciled in Emilia Romagna, three artists were selected – Gerarda Avallone, Tobia Bandini, and Giampaolo Cassano – who, during the five days of residency, created together with the tutors a multimedia work focused on the concept of the body and its mobility, reflecting on migration and hospitality.
SONITUS II
SONITUS II materialized on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Tower of the Modena Music Center with the event “Before the Roots,” a concert presenting the artistic residency on spatial listening practices and their philosophical implications, as well as on audio signal recording, sampling, and real-time audio post-production/manipulation. It was a new art life project, the realization of the SONITUS 2023 artistic residency on field recording and sound manipulation, aimed at original production. The path – as for SONITUS I – was curated by Giuseppe Cordaro, with Fabio Perletta in the role of guest tutor, featuring percussionist Enrico Malatesta and video artist/director Domenico Morreale. SONITUS II involved three young artists: Artiom Constantinov, Hernan Paulitti, and Dominic Sambucco, winners of the public call for musicians under 36 residing or domiciled in Emilia Romagna.
