NEW FAB REVIEW FOR PSYCHOPHYSICIST’S AUDIO COMPUTING BY MARCO PAOLUCCI FOR KATHODIK WEBZINE :: click here to read the review
MARCO PAOLUCCI WRITES: **New Rizosfera production, with a story that unfolds over the years: initial recording sessions with Adi Newton and Paul Prudence in 2016 and 2017; interrupted and resumed in 2022 and continued in 2023, again with Adi Newton, this time with Fabio Kubic. The final stage of production was handled by Adi Newton and Jacques Beloeil, who sadly passed away suddenly in 2023 after completing work on the album. The work is inspired, as we read in the presentation notes, by the research of Soviet acoustic theorist Boris Yankovsky. Yankovsky’s work was based on the belief that it was possible to develop a universal language of sounds using combinations of hand-drawn spectral “sound objects.” This idea was revisited by Paul Prudence for this ‘Audio Computing’ project, for the multifaceted Adi Newton’s creation, which resumed the Psychophysicist project founded in 1993-1994 by Adi Newton and Andrew Mackenzie, to develop Psychophysics, Psychoacoustics, and electronic music in applied Sonology.
Having provided the necessary context, let’s talk about the album. As we’ve come to expect from Adi Newton in recent times, it’s a compact, “well-sounding” work, without blemishes, skillfully weaving ambient horizons with glimpses from an industrial porthole, ethereal sound experiments with unsettling auditory paths, keeping the listener alert and attentive, ready to welcome new “sonic” openings after repeated listens. Recommended.
