Chaos Variation IV :: Mark Stewart / Obsolete Capitalism :: 12″ EP vinyl + 16-pages booklet
Mark Stewart is one of the greatest sonic conspirators in our times. One of the few musicians to know how to evolve the artistic, political and ethical sense of the punk generation of the 70s out of the worn-out musical and aesthetic canon of rock and roll and its lifestyle, bringing his experimental attitude to excellent results
in the counter-culture of the late twentieth century with his debut band The Pop Group (1977-1980) and even more with his next band known as Mark Stewart and The Maffia, to continue up to the albums of his artistic maturity. Far from exhausting his dimension of sonic experimenter, the last two decades have seen Mark Stewart focused on an excellent mix of images, art, sound and political protest, beyond any conventions and in legitimate aspiration to «new ways of life» which, as Mark Fisher wrote in The Weird and the Eerie, go beyond the ‘ruins of the Utopia of the Sixties’.The collaboration with Obsolete Capitalism in Chaos Variation IV draws precisely on this new and profound dimension of ethical art of the 21st century, which Mark Stewart has been relentlessly advocating since the beginning of his career with The Pop Group.
